The most anticipated highlight of this year’s Berlin Fashion Week was the show by Spanish designer Leandro Cano, winner of the 2012 Designer for Tomorrow Award by Marc Jacobs. Born in Andalusia, Cano’s roots are inspirational to his new collection. Childhood memories lead to a nostalgic and romantic runway scenery. The designer’s precision was on display at the show’s fitting: 25 volunteers (one per garment) were selected to dress the models.
White, nude and oxblood red dominate the collection. Highlights include smooth white leather and fur mixed with woven corsets, juniper berry patterns and porcelain flowers. Added volume to the hips give a feminine twist to an otherwise androgynous model look. “My collections convey a very idyllic and simultaneously dreamlike surreal beauty,” says the designer himself.
Seeing the last, spectacular bell-shaped dress, this conclusion can only be affirmed.
